Arvid put a strong day in yesterday on some flat surfaces for a change, despite the kilometres behind him starting to take a toll on his body. His back, foot, hands and mouth each bothered him at times yesterday. Between 9am yesterday and 3 am today, Arvid slept for a total of 44 minutes with a number of 7 to 15 minute naps.
He enjoyed a pizza in Tok, Alaska before cycling through a few hours of steady rain which turned heavy at some points.
He crossed the Alaska / Yukon border shortly after, bid farewell to the smooth highway beyond the Alaska border and slept for 3 hours. By 8:30 am Pacific Time he was back on the road.
Unfortunately, it appears the recent road “renovations” in Canada is basically a pebbled pavement in some stretches interspersed with washboard gravel (it’s embarrassing). In a vehicle it feels like a rough road but to Arvid, who feels every bump and rock, it’s “jarring”.
There’s still some tough mountain climbs and ravines waiting ahead of him in Yukon and BC that must be on his mind.
