Update

Arvid has been fighting swelling of his legs due to water retention since crossing the Saskatchewan & manitoba border. He’s fought hard to keep up his speed. This afternoon it has become clear that the situation was getting worse.

He feels his only hope in reaching Halifax is to use up his current banked time ahead of record pace to rest and hopefully reduce the swelling issues.

So we’ve decided to rest for day.

If this works, and the swelling goes down, he still had a shot at breaking the record because he’ll hopefully be cycling closer to his normal speed/endurance for the remaining days of the ride. We know when he’s closer to 100% he has to potential to gain some of the banked time back again.

Please pray for a quick recovery as he rests now.

PM crew

Great work Henry B, Stephen and Ruth on those long shifts during the hardest phase of the day for Arvid. Hopefully, they’re getting some well deserved sleep right now.

Special thanks to Henry who is leaving us today and join His lovely wife in Ottawa.

Arvid’s Diet

Someone was curious about what Arvid eats on the road besides MacDonalds and Tim Hortons. Each ride is different but the van is always stocked with the following. Red Bull- or hairy cow as Arvid calls it Mint Areo bars Pickles no garlic KFC Apples and oranges and other fruit Coke or Pepsi A bun with cheese and mayo Pizza after he’s off the bike at night Omelets made in the RV with 3 eggs, cheese, a smoky, a tomato, green pepper and salt and pepper to taste finally GoChi juice and Sustain (a supplement) and water Sometimes other things get added and somethings get left out

A special Sign

This is the sign we found at the side of the road. Art and Anne left it for Arvid. We taped it to the back of the RV 🙂

Arvid’s Happy Meal

Espanola

We’re not sure what they make here, but it looks important. We stopped in Espanola for a BigMac for Arvid and some food for the crew and saw it on the way into town. I wonder if our world will ever be “green” while we are dependent on places like this. -Stephen

Crew dynamics

It’s always interesting going on a road trip like this. Arvid’s body is definitely going through its issues with fluid retention, fatigue and pain. The crew is experiencing sympathy issues due to poor diet, irregular schedules and less sleep. Josh is trying prune juice as a solution. We’re not sure what Vic is trying, but Henry B and Stephen are trying salads and fresh fruit from St. Katherine’s courtesy of Arvid’s family. It’s an amazing treat for Arvid and the crew. Thanks again!

Family Meeting

Arvid’s brother Art and Anne from St. Katherine’s ON came up to meet us on the road. It was a great family moment and a huge encouragement. Thank you!

Thank you to the trucking community

We in the support crew and Arvid want to thank all the truckers who give us space on the road and an unusual number of friendly honks today.

Is there room for Arvid

Yesterday we (the evening crew) had a nice clean van for Arvid to take naps in. This is what the morning crew left us with. Really? I thought our standards were higher than this -Stephen (Evening Crew)
