Wheeling out of Wheeler – headed for Indiana!

As we speak, Arvid is wheeling his way out of Wheeler, IL. Tonight’s trek is a long one – roughly 90 km – and it will end in the next state, Indiana, in a town called Sullivan. This is area has been so kind to us – the scenery is pleasant and varies appropriately, the lawns are all somehow mowed perfectly, and all of the drivers — every single one — are courteous, cautious, generous with space, and have responded very enthusiastically to Arvid.

In turn, little bits of the Arvid we’ve seen in all the videos leading up to the race, the kind, sharp-witted, and wise-cracking Arvid has continued to find ways to show himself through the beaten body, will, and mind of the athlete who’s giving it everything to get himself to Maryland. With everything we do on this trip, it seems we have just enough for every step. Race Across America may be “powered by TRANE”, as they say, but Arvid is powered by something else — God’strength and grace.

What’s fascinating to me about this post is that you speak of atecmhatnt as a negative in your life, saying When I’ve been attached to people, ideas, outcomes, or goals, the result has always been an over-complication of my life. Yet psychologically, atecmhatnt is important to human beings, beginning from our early bond and atecmhatnt to our mothers, for example. What I read here is that you are VERY attached to meaningful goals, that you have the ability to ask yourself important questions about meaning, then take actions based on your values.Simply put, you’ve developed initiative, the ability to propel life forward in purposeful directions rather than being led by people, ideas, outcomes, or goals that didn’t feed your soul. You act from internal rather than external rewards.I enjoyed the article! Congrats on learning how to overcome challenges and find purpose in life!

Arvid, I am just in awe at your progress. I want to leave you with a scripture as you ride through the night: “The LORD is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.” Proverbs 3:26

Praying for protection for body, mind and soul as you continue on. Many blessings to you and the crew!
