Riding with Arvid

Since Arvid is riding locally, he’s been thankful to have tons of visitors come out to cheer him on. Some of you have made the trek by bike and come alongside him. With that in mind, we wanted to clarify a few rules regarding riding with him:

– absolutely no drafting Arvid (this is a Guinness rule). It is a solo endeavour and drafting makes it easier.
– only short periods of time. Essentially Arvid would like it if you biked with him for 2-5 minutes (beside or behind) and then dropped off or pulled ahead. Anything longer can start to look suspicious and we don’t want that.

Again, this isn’t to deter you from coming out, but just to make things upfront and clear. Thanks for all your excitement and encouragement, and do continue to visit.

Hail!

We were concerned Arvid was okay. He was concerned we were filming. Storm has abated. Still wet, but the hail seems to be done. Big enough to cause some pain.

Rainbow

After an intense hail storm (video to come), a beautiful rainbow showed up!

First mechanical issue

I guess a flat tire might not be mechanical however our first bike issue was a flat tire. Speedily the support crew drove out to Arvid’s breakdown point and the flat rear wheel was replaced with a fully functional with air rear wheel. Luckily Jamie the bike mechanic is scheduled to come out tonight just after midnight to go over the bike and now repair the flat. For supper tonight Arvid quickly consumed two Big Macs, one vanilla milkshake and one can of coke. Tis a beautiful evening for bike riding thus far.

Sunny Saturday afternoon

Finally some sun. The day is beautiful and the ride continues. Arvid is pedalling strong today taking advantage of the nice conditions. One small 9 minute nap this afternoon and them back on the bike. Fluid retention issues are not as serious as could be but still exist.

Another day begins

After 90 minutes of sleep and a leg massage Arvid is back on the road. The robins are singing. It’s the longest day of the year (seems somewhat ironic)!

Friday evening flash mob

Arvid always appreciates the support of people stopping by. Tonight his care group surprised him by showing up complete with fresh baking. Mmm… The perks of being on support crew.
