For those considering being part of Arvid’s support team should possess “Red Seal” certification.

Contrary to the Beatle’s hit tune: “Long and Winding Road ” highway 34 is long, straight, narrow and busy!
We have resorted to “leapfrogging”. Going ahead and waiting.
As crew we are often asked, “What do talk about all day long?”
Many times we talk how to best support Arvid while keeping him safe.
Once the basics are covered we have more in-depth conversations!
Yesterday we attempted to “identify” those persons who exhibited extreme organization and chaos!
The following two pictures should help potential crew members determine where the fall on this scale!
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Arvid was away early this morning. We are closing in on Fort Saskatchewan.
It looks like Arvid completed 355km on day 4, gaining 1,605m and losing 1,556m. He’s approaching Edmonton today!
Today we had our first flat tire.
We simply “swap” out the wheel and tire from his spare bike and get Arvid on his way.
We then repair the original tire in the motor home. It tends to turn the vehicle into a mobile bike shop.
Rick’s bed works very well as our work bench.
Arvid is back in civilization! He made it to Grande Prairie last night, after 387km on the day. That included 2,283m of climbing and 2,683m of descending.
Arvid went through a pretty rough time with a long stretch of road which had been recently “milled”.
Pavement milling is the process of removing at least part of the surface of a paved area such as a road, bridge, …
These milled ridges make a very difficult to ride in straight line.
Today Arvid crossed over the Peace River.
“When peace, like a river, attendeth my way.” Horatio Gates Spafford (1873) .
Did you know Horatio and his wife Ann lost 7 children over their life time?
Arvid cycles to help rescue children in Kenya. To bring hope to their circumstances.
My mind once more reflected on this wonder piece of music, born out of great sorrow and loss.
It has brought such hope to thousands of people simply from its singing.
Pedalling a bike may well do the same.
It’s Sunday! Arvid was on the road before 5 AM this morning.
You might remember the hymn by Johnson Oatman Jr.: “I’m pressing on the upward way new heights I’m finding every day…”
Once again are watching Arvid climb another long hill.
Arvid finished his ride last night with a very steep incline that slowed him down to 5k/hour. This barely fast enough to keep most of us upright on our bikes.
Terrain is similar to yesterday and weather conditions are excellent for “endurance biking”… cool and overcast.
Arvid is making good progress up North. On Day 2, he completed 347km in 16h 55m, averaging 20.5km/h (this includes all off-bike time during the day). This included 2,776m of climbing and 2,944m of descending.
Crew stats:
At 4:55am Arvid started at 2245 ft
At 7:43 he ascends to 3480 ft
At 10:19am he has descended to 1485.
Presently, we are near Fort Nelson.
