Because we don’t all love numbers. Because some of us love graphs. Here’s the journey as represented in a two-part graph. First, the blue line is Arvid’s total distance. The green line is the record’s total distance, averaged out over its entire length. Both of these lines have their value represented by the left y-axis (Total Distance). The yellow is the buffer, essentially a magnification of the gap between the blue and yellow lines. Its value is represented by the right y-axis (Distance Ahead). The value is also just on the bar itself.
Hopefully it makes sense to you. If it doesn’t, ignore it. Or go back to your high school math textbook.
