A difficult decision

Sometimes things turn out differently than one would ever imagine. Today is one of those days.

Arvid has put 100% into this GWR attempt. Anyone that has been in Winnipeg these last two weeks knows that he has had less than ideal weather conditions. He has gotten soaked and battered by the wind so many times we have lost count. The forecast calls for two more days of this. It is not safe to be on the bike now.

We always strive to make wise, responsible decisions. We have decided that the GWR 2014 Attempt is done. There is no way to recover the distance required to beat the record. It is unfortunate but that’s the unpredictability of life. And we accept this.

Some may ask why Arvid would not continue when the weather is nicer. We had fantastic support crew that took time from their busy lives and we are so thankful for that. There is a limit to how much time they have to give. Continuing would mean finishing it without a support crew which would lengthen the time required to do it. We have weighed the benefit of finishing slower and do not believe it is critical to our goal of creating awareness and funds for MCF.

Thank you for your interest. Please continue to support our efforts on behalf of the 10,000 reasons (lives) rescued by MCF.

Please check back on the blog for further updates.

For those of us who have been following Arvid’s ride, we need to ask ourselves this: When is the last time you have dreamed to do something so large that it scared you? When is the last time you didn’t even start something because you were afraid you might fail?

Arvid and Ruth continue to inspire me as they “dream big” for the children at MCF. We live in a society of comfort and complacency which has been challenged by their approach to life.

Thanks for giving far more than 100% Arvid. May you enjoy some well-deserved rest while God continues his work.

It is all compelling isn’t it? Having read the book, it is a compelling, well written string of stories towards wholehearted ness, vision, purpose and call. The mission for which you ride Arvid is completely compelling and we are each thrust into making a decision to spare some change($100.00 per child to be fed for a year).
The huge goals which you set out for yourself and your bicycle reflect the size of your dream for MCF! Thank you for giving your all! Also cudos to Ruth, your family and grand kids who cried out, “Go grandpa go!”as you first rode off:)
And, it’s just that……Grandpa has gone, goes and will go again. Go Grandpa go! Grandpa goes and goes:)

Over the past 2 weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to share the story of MCF to numerous people (including lending out my Charles Mulli books to a few) simply because of this ride. Oportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It’s been amazing watching you and your example to all of us! Make sure your next ride is in the summer so I can be part of your crew!

About MCF

Charles Mulli is a former street child from the slums of Kenya. He became extremely successful in business, but then God called him to give it all up and care for the orphaned and abandoned children still on the streets in Kenya. Charles Mulli is the founder and CEO of Mully Children's Family. To learn more about MCF, click here.

Arvid's Role

God has called me (Arvid) to be an ambassador for Mully Children's Family. I have chosen to use ultramarathon cycling as my platform from which to fulfill this calling. You can follow my ride, here, at www.grandpascan.com/ride. To read more about me and my story, click here.

Donate

I am asking you to help. I am trying to raise funds for the ongoing and capital expenses for the child mothers program at MCF. This program provides the critical life skills the young mothers need. To learn more about donating, click here.
